Those darn Nymphs - August 16, 2021

We like to fish dries and see those hungry trout smack or sip them down. Sign me up. I will do that all day. But sometimes we can’t get them up to the surface. Would you walk miles and miles, passing tasty food to eat a meal? Trout feed well down in the deeps. Why spend the energy? As much as I want to use dry flies, we can get more hookups if we take the food down to where the fish are feeding. My favorite combo is a pat’s rubber leg and a zebra nymph. I will use a double surgeon knot and leave one tag end long, 5 to 10 inches. Tie the heavier fly on the bottom, and the lighter one off the knot. Saturday we had a brute hit while fishing thru a deep eddy and the fight was on!

Book your trip soon. We have a few dates left in August. September has more available dates but they will fill up fast. The season for us is over on October 14, when our state line access closes. Fall fishing can be amazing!

Currently we are seeing smoke in the area but expect it to lighten up this week with rain in the forecast and cooler days. At the water level the smoke has not been noticeable. The river has been flowing steadily at the mid 7,000 CFS for several weeks. The fish have settled in and are feeding very well at our current temps of 59 to 62 degrees.

See you on the river!
