September 3, 2020 Hippie Stomper

I’ve been working in the office this week, doing shuttles for fishermen and wishing I was fishing. My river report this week is second hand, from those men and women who have been enjoying the Kootenai River and sharing. The river flow dropped to 8600 CFS this week. You may notices the currents slowing down in a few places. Another drop is planned on September 11th. During the rain the water temps dipped to 58 degrees, but as of this report it is back up to 61.

So the patterns being shared with me as being ‘the’ one that worked are; Pink Chernobyl, Hippie Stomper and purple haze.  I have to confess, I’ve been seeing some noise on Facebook about the Hippie Stomper but I’ve never fished with one or even knew what it looked like. So after a bit of research, I’ve learned this pattern was created by Andrew Grillos. He has a very nice website that walks you through how to tie your very own and I’ve added this pattern to my fly box.

Can’t wait to try them out! In fact, as I’ve been working the office, I’ve been selling them as they come off the vice, so I’m not the only one that wants to try them. They look like fish candy.

The coming week is a grab bag of temps. Saturday is supposed to hit the 90’s again, but Monday and Tuesday is only in the low 70’s. Go figure. Hopefully the fish will like the variety. The night time temps are in the 50’s and a few nights will dip into the 40’s! Yes! Bring on the fall weather. I’m ready.
