Main Salmon River at Riggins
- With very deep holes and large underwater boulders
followed by rapids, eddies and shallow ripples and edges, it is no wonder
why it is a World Class steelhead trout river with fish from 2 to over 20
lbs. Outstanding September and October fly fishing at the warmer water
temperatures. As the water temperatures drop below 45 degrees, drift
fishing is better. Excellent water for all types of fishing. Also good to better than average rainbow trout fishing in late summer to early fall when water flows and temperatures
decrease. An excellent smallmouth fishery in in late
spring spawn and again in mid summer to late fall. You haven't lived until
you caught a smallmouth on the river - in a drift boat - on a fly!Excellent Spring sturgeon waters.
Main Salmon River at Salmon
- Approximately 50 miles of classic drift boat water that
is tailor made fly fishing water. Excellent early spring and fall
fly fishing water for steelhead in the 2-18 lb class. Mid summer rainbow
trout fishing can be excellent until the water gets too warm from
agricultural run off with 50 fish days not uncommon. It is worth the
effort to hit this narrow window of opportunity. Some rainbows are in the
2-5lb. class, but most are in the 6-14 inch range. These are excellent
native fighting rainbows. Resembles the famous Montana trout rivers, (one
mountain range away), without the hordes of humanity.
Kootenai River at Bonners Ferry
- Big water with large rainbows, cutthroat, or cutbow in the 3/4 - 6 lb. range. a quality not quantity fish stream. This is a power boat & drift boat river, bring your sink tip, wet and floating lines. Wide and deep stream with very little structure consisting of tail out waters from Libby Dam 40 miles upstream. Best from mid June through November.
