Flow is dropping and water is clearing from blow out 10 days ago. Smallmouth action picking back up with better visibility. Water temps. have cooled 4 degrees to 64 degrees and I hope it is doing it in the Snake as well then we will have early steelhead arrival. Numbers coming over Bonneville have set record days. 34,000 recorded on one day.

Salmon River at Riggins

14 Sept. 09

River continues to fish well and fishing everywhere has been utterly fantastic since late June except for one blow out on the Salmon the 1st of August. Water temps have risen 6 degrees in the Main Salmon which has been great for smallmouth but still about 8-10 degrees cooler than normal from previous years. Have picked up some great rainbows in the 14-16 inch range that are very plump. Remember if they have a adipose fin they must be released, and all of them have had adipose fins; the same goes for steelhead. Also, you must fish barbless now that Steelhead season has opened on the

Main even though you may be fishing for Smallmouth. Steelhead are in the river and as the

Snake River cools off, hopefully soon, they will come in hoards; be ready. Flow is below 4000 and water temps. around 62 degrees F. again and the Snake is around 66 degrees and falling.

That should trigger the migration to the Salmon. Here they come!
